Teamsters Western Region & Local 177 | Benefits | Retirees

Retirement Benefits: The Teamsters Western Region 177 Retiree Health Plan is available only for those individuals that retire on or after January 1st, 2014.  If you retired before January 1, 2014, you may contact UPS for more information as your retiree benefits should continue to be provided by UPS.

Retiree Health Care Eligibility:

Western Region:

  • Participated in the Teamsters Western Region and Local 177 Health Care Plan (or a predecessor) for 30 of the 48 months preceding retirement.
  • Have at least 10 years of credited service with a Contributing Employer and
  • Eligible for and Retire under a Disability; Normal and/or PEER Pension from the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Fund

Teamsters Local 177:

  • Eligible for and Retire under an Early or Normal Pension of the Local 177/UPS Pension Plan or the UPS Part-time Pension Plan and
  • Any age with 30 or more years of Credited Service or
  • Age 50 or more with 25 or more years of Credited Service or
  • Age 55 or more with 20 or more years of Credited Service

Under the Western Region and 177 Plan, UPS Teamster retirees maintain coverage for:

Comprehensive Medical:  After annual deductible of $200/person or $400/family is met, the Plan pays 80% of all reasonable and customary charges for in-network medical services and 70% for out-of-network covered services, until the out of pocket cap of $1,000 per person ($2,000 per family) is met.  Once the out-of-pocket cap is reached, the Plan pays 100% of all reasonable and customary charges for that calendar year.

Your Medical Carrier for this Plan is determined by the State in which you reside:

  • Aetna:          Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Utah
  • BCBSAZ:     Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington.

If you move to a State not listed, your coverage will continue with the same Medical Carrier

 

Prescriptions: In-Network, Plan pays 80% for prescriptions. Out-of-Network paid at 70% for all reasonable and customary charges.

 

Dental:  In-network, Plan covers 100% of basis services; 80% of major services; and 50% of child orthodontia services up to a $1,500 lifetime maximum.  Annual dental maximum of $1,500 per person per calendar year applies.

 

Vision:  Plan pays 100% benefit for lenses and 100% benefit for frames (up to $100 allowance) and contact lenses (up to $80 allowance).  Participant pays $10 copayment for annual eye exam.  Maximum benefits are calculated on 12-month basis.

 

Family & Dependents:  Retirees may opt to cover spouse and dependents. Dependents will be coverered to age 19 and to age 25 if a full-time student

 

Surviving Spouse:  If retiree dies before their spouse, the spouse maintains coverage for life or until they remarry.

 

Post-age 65:  Once a participant or spouse qualifies for Medicare, their Western Region and 177 Plan retiree health benefits continue, but Medicare becomes the primary insurer. 

 

Qualified UPS Retirees contribute a small share toward their Western Region and 177 Plan retiree health care coverage.  The monthly contribution rates are the same as those Teamster Retirees paid to the UPS Company plan.
